i am once again thinking about the missed opportunities of a garth and jackson mentor/mentee brother in arms relationship

thinking about how in episode four after angel yells at husk. husk realized two things and then did them.

he first realized that he went about looking at angel all wrong, and shared a piece of his own painful past to rectify that. he recognized someone going through what he's going through, and shared a piece of his past to get angel to realize that too.

and secondly, husk doesn't try to comfort angel about it. he knows that the last thing anyone in angels position wants to hear is empty comfort, and he realizes that. so what he says in response to that realization is this:

"You've lost your way, you think your life is wrecked, well let me just say you're correct."

he AFFIRMS angels feelings, because husk IS in angels position. the song isnt husk taking a jab at angel when hes down. its an acknowledgement of his pain, which is EXACTLY what angel needed.

sure a solution to the problem would be nice and probably preferred, but a solution is just NOT possible right now, so the next best thing husk can do is acknowledge that pain and tell him "yeah, its fucked up, and its okay to be fucked up about how fucked up it is."

because they're both survivors, and husk knows that being able to have someone to lean on while you're going through something thats impossible to escape from is the best way of coping with it. and even then, he doesnt make fun of angels coping mechanisms. angel can drink and do drugs and have sex all he wants, husk doesnt care.

but husk wont let him self destruct with these coping mechanisms. he wont let angel actually hurt himself, because theres a difference between coping via it, and using it to hammer the hurt in more, and the only time husk stepped in with angel was when he knew angel was in danger of hurting himself with it.

aventurine would love going to the beach with you 

building sand castles, picking seashells, jumping over the shallow waves along the shore

it all feels fun and refreshing to him. something he did not have the luxury to feel when he was younger

at your encouragement, he signs the two of you up for surf lessons one day

aventurine is…not a natural 

you’re both falling off the boards and needing the instructor to come and fish you out of the waves

after a few too many close calls, aventurine decides he never wants to go surfing again 

when the sun sets and golden hour hits, you take one million photos of aventurine, at minimum 

he models and poses for you, enjoying your excitement whenever you get a good shot 

once you’d had your fill, aventurine sneaks a few photos of you as well

he shows you his favorite beach pic of you with a smile

“you’re prettier than the sunset” 

aventurine ends the day off by buying ice cream for the two of you as you head home <3

while dan heng likes the warmth, he is not a fan of the summer heat

he prefers staying indoors during the summer, at the library or in museum with minimal walking around outside during the day

however, he does like sitting underneath the shade of a tree and reading a book 

some days, he’ll set up a hammock between two trees and ask you to join him 

when the heat cools down and the darkness graces the earth, dan heng likes to walk around and go stargazing 

the temperature is perfect at night—not too hot but also not cold enough to need anything other than a long sleeve shirt or a light jacket

dan heng has read about all the constellations you can see in the summer 

he’s disappointed there’s too much light pollution in most places, but for the stars he can see, he points it out to you and explains the story behind it

what constellation it’s part of, what planet is next to it, is that a space vehicle or a cosmo? 

he would definitely go on one of those websites that sell you a star lmao and “buy” one for you

even though he’s aware it’s a scam, he know you’d find it cute. dan heng shows you the certificate of your new star ownership and the two of you look for the coordinates in the night sky together <3

jing yuan thinks going to an amusement park is the peak summertime activity 

doesn’t matter if you are sweating buckets waiting in the long lines surround by body heat. jing yuan comes prepared. he has a hat, a battery-powered fan with a built-in mist spray, and water bottles with ice 

of course, he shares all that with you once you get tired of using your foldable fan

jing yuan is an amusement park snack afficionado. a salty pretzel? yes. a sweet treat? yes. a whole ass turkey leg? also yes. 

you are never hungry during your outing since jing yuan has you covered 

when you want photos taken of you, you show jing yuan exactly how you want it—angle and zoom and everything

yet when he takes the photo, it comes out off

crooked. blurry. you’re half cut off…

the only good photo he took of you is one where you weren’t prepared and have a horrendously silly look on your face 

“jing yuan… delete that right now.” 

“why? i believe it is called a ‘candid’ by the young folks. very popular.” 

you may not have come out with good photos of yourself, but at least you and jing yuan had fun and will treasure these memories forever. no matter how bad the photo to capture it is.

Jungkook’s always been… whatever to you. He’s good-looking, you guess – conventionally, you mean. Not your type – though, you don’t exactly have a type – but he has a face that both women and men definitely crush on. It’s weird because he could have both soft and sharp features at the same time. Sometimes, he kind of looks broody – unapproachable and sort of cold. Some other times he’s like a round ball. 

But most of the time he’s just annoying to you. He whines when he isn’t given attention, and he could be such a big baby you wonder if his muscly body is just a facade or something. 

“Jungkook.” 

“Yes.” 

“Can you not?” 

He looks at you like a deer caught in the headlights, hand pausing mid-air; a strand of your hair is pinched in between his pointer and middle finger, the ends pointing to your ear. He’s been doing that for the past ten minutes and you’ve been complaining that “It tickles!” but he wouldn’t stop, not when—

“I’m not stopping until you give me attention.” 

You groan, flipping your textbook onto the next page. You’re lost, to be honest, and it’s all Jungkook’s fault. He wouldn’t leave you alone and thank god he has class in the next thirty minutes because you swear to god, you’re gonna unleash hell on him if he doesn’t stop. 

“Why are you not talking to me? What did I do?” Jungkook says, and this time he lets go of your hair, but what he does next is fold his arms on the table, lay there then try and peek at your face. 

“You didn’t do anything.” You respond, plain and simple. Literally true. He genuinely hasn't done anything wrong. He's just so... talkative sometimes and while you can keep up with that usually, today is just one of those days.

And Jungkook being Jungkook, he thinks it has to do with him. Eyeroll-inducing, really, but you've come to know that's just him.

His ass is hauling most of the space of the 7/11 seat and at this point, you’re better off transferring tables than to deal with his dramatic antics, but you also feel kind of bad because Jungkook is taking this way too seriously. 

“Liar.” Jungkook murmurs. Then he turns to his ice cream that’s already melted. He takes the spoon and begins to eat again. “Fine, then.” 

You’re happy for a while when he finally stops trying to talk to you. 

To be honest, you just want to sneak a little bit of study time. That’s how you expected to spend your break but Jungkook decided to come along and now the words are dancing in your eyes and you can’t focus.

Especially not right now, when Jungkook eventually grows uncharacteristically quiet beside you. 

As you sneak a glance at him, he looks so… sad. 

“Hey,” you nudge at his bicep. Jungkook looks at you, the small spoon halfway in his mouth. His brows are arched and he looks kinda... cute with his google eyes. “Why are you so quiet?” 

Then he does it. 

He purses his lips, puts down the spoon, and then rolls his eyes. 

You cackle. 

“Did you just roll your eyes at me?” You say in disbelief, not quite getting over the fact that he did just roll his eyes at you and… it was the most adorable thing you’ve ever seen today. 

“No.” he huffs indignantly, and you swear you can’t help but giggle more. 

“Holy shit, that was the cutest thing you've ever done,” you scoot closer to him and suppress another wave of laughter when his eyebrows meet in confusion. “Do it again.” 

“Are you making fun of me?” Jungkook pointedly asks. 

And he’s so… sassy. 

“Jungkook, don’t make me laugh,” you lean towards his arm because you genuinely could not get the picture of him rolling his eyes at you out of your head. Why did he have to look adorable rolling his eyes?! 

“You’re weird.” Jungkook says and pokes your cheek with his finger. 

You swat at his hand and peel your head away from his arm. “You’re weird.” You say in between your contained laughter.

“Whatever.” 

You laugh again and Jungkook grumbles as he tells you he’s gonna get some sandwich before standing up.

You shake your head with a smile on your face as you flip open the textbook again.

loathes smores, he just thinks theyre too much and not worth the mess.. he doesnt have much of a sweet tooth, and the only reason he would eat one is because you went through the effort of starting a fire and bringing the stuff out and meeting him in the woods

has his back to you while hes eating his, hes not quite to the "hes fine with lifting his mask up around you" stage, and its going to stay like that for a long while

viscously rubbing his face afterwards to get rid of any leftover mess, he hardly ever talks or makes a sound but you can hear him hissing under his breath as he works

snatches up any napkins or wipes you hand him and rubs his face clean- may rip his mask off to clean the insides of it because he put it back on not realizing there was still more mess on his face

rage rage anger he hates it so much

HOODIE

you have to beg him to take his nasty crusty gloves off before you even open the bag of marshmallows- for both your sakes... you love him, really you do, but you cant stomach the idea of him touching the same food youre going to eat with said gloves

doesnt much care for smores actually, he thinks theyre too messy... it gets absolutely everywhere and he isnt too fond of the feeling of his mask sticking to his face where he missed some spots

it also doesnt help that he doesnt fully take off his mask, only lifting it up enough to eat the damn thing... he wouldnt have to worry about it if he just took the entire thing off... but oh well

likes the marshmallow moderately roasted- far from burnt, but toasted enough that its softened

would prefer a different treat next time

you know what? blasting him with the beam of "has never tried a smore before in his life because the author has never gotten to try one"

burns his marshmallow but he prefers it that way, both texturally and flavor wise, you may think him insane for roasting it until the outside looks like coal but it brings him joy!

doesnt mind the mess it makes, if he gets some of the melted marshmallow on his hands he might wave it in your face and pretend hes about to touch you

very passionate debate on whether or not the chocolate goes under or above the marshmallow- he thinks it tastes better above but most people do it under.. he swears it tastes better this way! just try it!

so in this scene lucas is drinking a new coke and he gets in an argument with mike about it.

this scenes blocking groups all our couples together as has been pointed out over and over. lumax, jancy and byler with el on her own.

now the first thing i thought was interesting about this scene is will expression. he glances at mike as soon as the shot cuts to them and before mike asks him how he can drink it.

throughout the scene will doesnt really say anything but he looks a bit amused and almost excited? which is like fine his friends are having a dumb argument and its funny

however i am a byler and i read into everything so

lucas is in a happy heterosexual relationship. hes straight. he enjoys new coke. he likes women. mike does not like new coke. mike does not like women.

now theres two different way i read this scene.

the first being

in lucas' explanation he describes the old coke as

"the original is a classic. no question about it. but the remake-" *takes a long sip* "sweeter, bolder, better"

originally it was just the party. mike will dustan and lucas. the og party was a classic. it was great. but now lucas is with max. which is even better because he is in love with max.

mike immediately calls lucas insane. he cannot understand how being with a girl could be so great, he doesn't understand the appeal.

"so you prefer the original thing?"

"what, no. im not talking about the thing. im talking about new coke."

mike gets defensive. mike ALSO has a girlfriend whom he should be in love with. lucas is calling him out. what do you mean you dont understand micheal?? mike redirects this to talking specifically about max, who he has expressed distaste for in the past. deflecting the topic

During your first interaction, time almost stood still as the two of you inspected one another-

you, standing in place when you ran just moments ago,

Bela, stilled with her sickle held in her hand, as though frozen like a deer in the headlights upon running across you

- it was a cute moment, even, in itself. Both of you, stunned by each other

Where you saw a pair of strong, piercing golden eyes, she saw multiple pairs of eyes

You watched then as she studied them almost, her own flickering across your face

The two eyes at the center of your face, human-looking in every aspect but their colour

A dark grey, she originally thought

In time, she would find and adore the specks of red and purple in them, only found upon closer inspection. But more of that later

Then, more eyes, stretching across the side of your forehead almost

5 of them, some more slit than others, some smaller, some larger

She shivered at the sight, but even you saw the curiosity shimmer within her back then already

alternatively, javier technically is never fated to die/be transformed in the original story, whereas lloyd should be dead and alicia should be tainted with dark magic, so bc the two of them have warped their fates at the moment, it works? and javier's doesnt bc he's technically not? idk if that makes any sense,,, i was told by my mutual that javier has shared mana with lloyd a lot in the novel before, so i'm not sure why they made this change! i hope they expand on it a lil in the future,,,

also, while i'm yapping here, i like that alicia is straightforward abt what she likes abt lloyd, but i wish they got to have a longer conversation than this,,, like this is a good start but it didn't really go anywhere (besides some really wonderful panels of lloyd but i mean like, narrative-wise lol)

as i mentioned in my last liveblog, alicia and suho share a lot more common experiences than they probably realize! and i think if they got a chance to talk about that, talking about their past circumstances, how they became who they are now, and just more in general on what led alicia to fall for lloyd besides what he's capable of,,, this ship would actually sail pretty well, yknow?

unfortunately though with the pacing of the manhwa and i guess just their episode length requirements in general, it makes sense that they couldn't get to that,,, i just wish it happened,,, maybe in snippets in future episodes? but seeing as we're getting pretty close to the end afaik, the chances are slim

i mainly love llovier but i also really love alilloyd, and i think alilloyd as a whole would have a much better leg to stand on if they actually talked about their experiences and had more instances of saving each other, of supporting each other, the way javier does with lloyd. it's too few and too far between for alicia and lloyd, so it feels like it's flatter than what it could be, y'know?

a part of me hopes that they did get to do that in the novel, but from what i recall hearing, alilloyd didn't have a strong leg in the novel either,,, i distantly recall someone telling me that the manhwa is actually doing alilloyd stronger justice than the novel did (i may be misremembering tho so don't quote me on that lol), and seeing as the manhwa's interpretation of alilloyd is so few and far between as is,,,, it makes me worried that the novel never actually got to touch upon how their relationship evolves (if im wrong, please correct me!!!)
